During my four weeks in Sarajevo working at the Goethe Insitute I also spent a weekend in Mostar, 2-3 hours south.
The road took us through spectacular green mountains, past turqoise rivers and lakes, through amazing gorges and finally led us into Herzegovina. All of a sudden it seemed very mediterranean, the way I know it from Croatia or southern France. It was warmer, the mountains bare.
The old town of Mostar is beautiful and packed with tourists during day time. Nonetheless we enjoyed some cool quiet evenings by the river.

The old bridge was rebuilt in 2004 and locals tend to jump the 25m into Neretva river after collecting money from tourists – why not. Quite spectacular.
Since we didn’t fancy roaming the packed cobbled streets during the day we decided to visit Kravice waterfalls, about 40km away. The only two ways of getting there without a car are either booking a tour and being driven there in a big group with a tour guide, or simply hitchhiking. Not hard to guess which option we chose! We got a few good rides and enjoyed the waterfalls and the surrounding pools in awe all afternoon. Bliss.
