This article is personally written for my American best study hall buddy Kendra (and of course everyone else who’s reading). From august 2012 to august 2013, I’m serving in a German volunteer program supporting foreign schools that offer German classes.
Therefore I’m currently living in Chile’s capital Santiago, working at a suburban school with about 400 students from Prekinder to seniors. The students are learning German since first grate, but with a fairly low level.
So, I’m there at school, talking a little German, but mostly practicing Spanish, teaching them the name of my German home city (Mönchengladbach), reading with first grate a story about an extraterrestrial called Oxi who comes to Earth in order to learn German (makes perfectly sense…), and wondering about what they think is typically German. But it’s a lot of fun with the kids and I’m looking forward to get to know the country, travel to Argentina (and maybe Bolivia or Peru as well), and celebrate my December birthday in Latinamerica’s summer. And -most important- in the supermarket they got the American Hershey’s chocolate, that you can’t buy in Europe.
At least that’s how it’s after the first two weeks :)
