I was glad to start my year at Goethe-Institut with the annual trip of all employees. (Betriebsausflug, beautiful German word). This year, they decided to go to Трън (Tran), a small town in western Bulgaria, close to the Serbian border.
It took about 2 hours to get to the region of Трън. Our first stop was the village Бусинци (Busintsi) where we visited the local Ceramics Museum. The region is famous for its craftsmanship, especially traditional pottery. The museum displays a collection of the local ceramic art as well as a historical ceramic stove.
Next stop was the village Студен Извор (Studen Izvor). The great son of this village was Dr. Grigorov, who discovered the Lactobacillus bulgaricus, the bacteria used for the production of Bulgarian yogurt. The yoghurt museum was somewhat disappointing, that’s why we didn’t spent much time there.
The region’s most famous attraction is the Lomnishko gorge, included in list of the 100 natural tourism sites in Bulgaria. An excellent place for a short hiking tour.
Last stop was a cosy restaurant where we enjoyed traditional Bulgarian and Serbian food and drinks.
