As I already was more or less vegetarian and sometimes vegan, I decided to eat meat in Mongolia, as this is the main food they eat. Living in a family it would be pretty impolite not to eat their food.
Since I am here I have never had any veggies during dinner, when I ate with the family and I do already miss it a lot.
But what I can state is, that the Mongolian meat is good quality and tastes completely different than our overbred antibiotic chickens. It tastes stronger and the people here eat everything, including the periosteum (german: Knochenhaut) and the medulla (german: Knochenmark). Yum 😉
My favourite food up to know is Buuz, steamed meat-filled noodles and Khuushuur. This is a huge buuz filled with meat but fried and not steamed!
I definitely have to try out Tsuivan, which is a meat and veggies hotpot (y).
I tried as well the following things:

• Budaatai Khuurga (a rice dish with meat and veggies)
• Aaruul (a white hard thing made of dried curd cheese; mostly cow, yak, cmel or other milk)
• Airag (fermented mare’s milk); yummie but has the urgent effect that you need to go to the toilet 😀
• Suutsai Tsai (milk tea with salt)

What I find a bit frightening it the dish Boodog, which is marmot or goat. They fill it with hot stones in their stomach and led it cook. More details here

We gonna see how I will survive the following month, but at least we found the German Bakery, where we can go and have a Berliner, Bratwurst, Linzertorte or other stuff!

More information and even recipes (English and German website) available here

Definitely THE thing I already miss most, as usual….. tatataaaaa….
